Get a Famous Friend
March 6 ,2006
Celebrities love being celebrities, but don’t always love other celebrities. Successful misfits who are not famous themselves can become famous by being themselves with a buddy in the public eye.
Famous Friends
Ricky Gervaise who created the hit BBC TV Comedy show (and now the NBC version) The Office a mockumentary about the world’s worst boss and his put-upon staff has now become a success with podcasts. His podcast sponsored by the British newspaper, The Guardian, became an overnight wonder. He is a success again.

But he says that he owes his success to his misfit, friend, Karl Pilkington. Having a famous friend can make you famous!
British comedian has also given a nobody a chance. Graham Norton whose talk show is a major hit in Britain…

… and a cult favorite in America spotlighted Betty Hoskins, a British senior who was a dinner lady at Graham Norton's drama school. After he started presenting So Graham Norton, Betty was reunited with Graham and became a regular guest.
Graham usually uses Betty for a joke about her age and/or her appearance, however she sometimes is asked to perform more unusual tasks. To date she has interviewed celebrities, been the target in a mini-game called 'Hunt Betty'.

I don’t have celebrity friends but I do have friends who have catapaulted into great jobs. One friend became head of HR for a company and offered me three weeks of freelance work which became four years total.
When we first knew each other we were at the beginning of our careers. He went on to great things and I kept in touch. What was important was our initial friendship and our regular contacts.
Be friends and keep friends. You never know when one of your friends will remember your misfit ways and know how you can go from a misfit to a successful misfit.
